The project of the storm water and wastewater systems concerns the urban touristic and agricultural zones under rapid development and urbanization of the Northeastern areas (61.5km2 approx.) of Attica prefecture.
It will be serving several urban settlements (communities or municipalities) of the north area of the east prefecture of Attica: Kropia,
Paiania, Spata, Anthousa, Penteli, Geraka, Glyka Nera, Pallini, Pikermi, Rafina, Artemida, Nea Makri and Marathona, with 2,000 to 15,000 inhabitants each, having a total population of 265,000 residents. Population served during the summer peak bathing season will increase to 470,000 PE (year 2040).
The Project includes one wastewater
treatment plant for 470,000 PE (Phase B’ - 2040) with full biological treatment and tertiary treatment for effluent reuse in irrigation and industries, near the town of Rafina, one 2m3/sec twin pipeline Ø1000mm of total length 6.4km (sea outfall 1.75km), one submarine outfall (1km) and 160km of main sewage drains (DN 350 to 1,200), including a tunnel of 1.1km length (d=4m).
